If you’ve been searching for a generator, chances are you stumbled upon this one. Now, you want to know if this gives the most value for your money.

Firstly, why should you trust me? For one, I actually own this generator. Additionally, I am also an experienced prepper, and I have many electrician friends who talk a lot about these kinds of things. So, I know what I’m talking about.

This new model is more user-friendly and far more reliable than most other models out there.

But enough talk.

About Westinghouse WGen7500DF

about westinghouse wgen7500df portable dual fuel generator

The Westinghouse WGen7500DF is a monster when it comes to power.

This is a dual fuel portable generator, superior to generators that only run on one fuel (e.g., gasoline, propane). I personally use propane most of the time because it lasts forever, whereas any other gas can usually only be stored for about 24 months.

This generator is portable, meaning it is optimal for emergency power and small business owners.

This generator can produce up to 9500 watts, but that’s pushing it. It can easily run at about 7500 watts for 11 hours on a 6.6-gallon gasoline tank.

While on a propane tank, it can do 6750 watts up to 8550 watts.

Stunning.

There are two outlets that you can use. 2 duplex outlets (120V 20A (5-20R), 1 (120/240V 30A (L14-30R), and 2 5VUSB ports. These are technical terms that can be difficult to understand.

But the truth is, you really don’t need to know everything about them. Just what they do and how to use them – we will briefly go over it in the FAQ.

The engine is the high end 420cc Westinghouse OHV 4 Stroke. A powerful engine.

The noise level is 75 dB (lawnmowers are about 90) if left unmuffled. I will touch on this in the FAQ as well.

Touching on the company itself, Westinghouse has been around since 1886, and all of its products have been proven to be reliable. They have never let me down, and they are proud of their work.

Benefits

benefits of westinhouse wgen700df portable duel fuel generator

The generator will keep important appliances running, prevent food spoilage, keep your home comfortable, and keep you safe.

But, what exactly can we use given the amount of power this generator gives off?

To answer that question, I conducted a test to find out what the Westinghouse WGen7500DF could power. Here are my results:

  • 5 light bulbs
  • 1 sump pump
  • 1 refrigerator
  • 1 internet router
  • 1 security system
  • 1 air conditioner
  • 1 furnace blower
  • 1 fan
  • 1 TV
  • 1 computer
  • 1 well pump
  • 1 microwave

You can safely add or switch out one of the following:

  • 2 low-power appliance (toaster, hairdryer, humidifier)
  • 1 dishwasher
  • 1 vacuum
  • 1 blender
  • 1 washing machine
  • 1 garage door
  • 1 water heater
Basically, most of your house. You may have to turn off a few things if you want to turn on a few things, but it sure beats having none of those things turned on in the first place.

This generator is great for everyone, no matter where you are.

My Thoughts

To be honest, this generator is a lifesaver. In three blackouts – one lasting two days! This generator saved me a lot of trouble.

This generator allowed me and my family to have warm food, warm showers, decent lighting, comfort, and security. I am really thankful I have this.

I have never had to use the manual pull start, so, in my opinion, this generator does not require a lot of work.

However, when I first bought it and did a test run (turned off everything in my house), it did work – one concern, though.

It was loud. It definitely didn’t smell that bad at all since I was outside. So, I simply added on a muffler, which I will cover more in the FAQs, and it was much better.

In my opinion, they should have included a better muffler with the generator, but for the generator’s base price, it’s already an amazing deal.

That was my only concern. This generator is one of Westinghouse’s best pieces of work, and it serves all the main tasks a generator is supposed to do and more.

Definitely recommend this.

Westinghouse WGen7500DF FAQ

westinghouse wgen7500df FAQ

Now, here are some of the most common questions for this generator. We also included some common questions asked for almost every generator.

Why buy a dual generator?

An obvious benefit of propane is that the engine will run smoother and will emit less CO2. This is beneficial for the environment.

However, the biggest benefit for a customer can be that the generator can be kept for years without any special measures. When the generators’ gas fuel line is powered on propane alone, it will not gum up during storage, unlike gasoline.

Gas is highly flammable and creates flammable vapors that can combust and cause fires. Often, when decanting the gas from its bottle to the engine, some gas is leaked. The fuel will then be ignited by an open flame or a surrounding spark.

Propane is purchased in an enclosed tank and used directly from the tank. It is, therefore, simpler to treat than gasoline and other gases.

Dual-fuel engines run on many gases, so they are not tailored for propane-like engines designed specifically for propane.

It is less efficient on propane than on fuel, as seen in the usage figures of the generator specifications.

This is also a good thing because this means that when you run out of propane or don’t have any propane, you can still have power.

How do I actually start this during an emergency?

The manual does an amazing job of explaining in a detailed way, but here is how to set it up during an emergency.

First, find a good outdoor location with some cover (porch, balcony) and sturdy ground.  From personal experience, I know this can handle a little rain without any damage whatsoever, but for safety, you should keep rain and snow away from this generator.

Then, you have to figure out the extension cord wire gauge size – a table is in the manual, then you can connect it to your building’s electrical system.

I am not qualified to tell you how to do that. From my experience, it seemed complicated at first, but after that, it all seemed extremely easy.

You should always test before an actual blackout comes to test if you received what you wanted and to give you a general feel from the generator.

How to make your generator as quiet as a cricket?

This is for people who get annoyed by sound easily and have many neighbors nearby.

This is simple to do.

As discussed above, you use a muffler. Basically, the bigger the muffler, the more silent your generator will be. This is the muffler I use. It is great and doesn’t distract my neighbors or me.

These mufflers are very easy to install and reduce the sound by a lot. This is great for most people, but if you want another solution, one that is much cheaper, add air compressor rubber feet to eliminate the vibration.

There are many more innovative solutions – here is a great resource if you want more information to make your generator quieter.

Summary

In summary, this generator is top of the line. It sells for a great price and definitely gives you more bang for your buck than any other generator.

When you buy this generator, you are buying security, hygiene, comfort, and so much more.

This portable, dual fuel generator can provide up to 9500 peak watts and 7500 running watts – which is better than the majority of generators.

This has all of the most useful outlets to ensure you have power for however long you have an electrical emergency.
